En eixe context ombr\u00edvol, el seu antic col\u00b7laborador Charles Jennens, li va encarregar un nou projecte: El Messies. H\u00e4ndel va compondre l&#8217;oratori entre agost i setembre i la seua estrena, a l&#8217;abril de 1742, va ser un \u00e8xit rotund. El Dubl\u00edn Journal va parlar de \u201cel sublim, el gran i el tendre\u201d i del \u201cencantament del Cor i O\u00efda raptats&#8221;. Des de llavors, l&#8217;obra s&#8217;ha establit com una fita en el seu g\u00e8nere. Dividit en tres parts, el Messies descriu el naixement de Crist en primer lloc; la seua vida, resurrecci\u00f3 i ascensi\u00f3 al cel en la segona part i acaba amb una tercera, en la qual se celebra la redempci\u00f3 de la humanitat. The Sixteen i Harry Christopher, el seu fundador, gaudixen des de fa m\u00e9s de 30 anys d&#8217;una extraordin\u00e0ria reputaci\u00f3 en l&#8217;execuci\u00f3 de la primera polifonia anglesa, en obres mestres del Renaixement, aix\u00ed com en la m\u00fasica barroca i el primer classicisme.
